Andréa Backman serves as Dean at the Jack Welch Management Institute (JWMI). In this role, she is responsible for all academic matters including faculty on-boarding and performance management, product design and development and the overall student experience.

Working closely with Jack Welch, who serves as Executive Chairman at JWMI, Andréa has implemented a robust faculty performance system, brought student satisfaction scores in line with best-in-class institutions such as Amazon and Google, and worked to ensure that students and alumni are experiencing immediate return on their investments.

Prior to joining JWMI, Andréa served as a faculty member and online leader at the University of Virginia. She also served as Senior Vice Provost for Faculty at Strayer University, Director of New Program Development at the University of Virginia and Associate Director for Distance Education at DePaul University. She holds a PhD from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree from DePaul University and an undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University.

Andréa has spent her career leading initiatives related to innovation in higher education, online learning and adult learning. She recently appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and was recently published in Chief Learning Officer, CEO Magazine and Fortune.com.
