Important Information for Start of Remote Teaching Monday, March 16

March 13, 2020

From Susan Fournier, Allen Questrom Professor & Dean

So far, BU has made two decisions: (1) to move face-to-face course meetings online as of Monday, March 16 until April 13, and (2) to remain open and operational. An overarching goal is to preserve the learning goals and credits students need to complete the semester.

Please note the following updates:

(1)   Faculty are expected to be operational by the time of their first post-break class to teach remotely and synchronously using the Zoom platform in assigned course time slots.

While fine for MOOCs, we will be delivering an interactive program and cannot accommodate pre-recorded classes and asynchronous presentations.  Simple Echo-capturing of classes does not provide a satisfactory learning experience for students. You are expected to record each of your Zoom sessions and upload them to Questrom Tools to make them accessible for students in different time zones.

The first session should be used to reorient your syllabus and students to the ZOOM environment and reassure the students about what they should expect in your course.

You will have tech-support while teaching remotely. Questrom ITS has created a Microsoft Teams Channel for Questrom Faculty who need immediate assistance while they are teaching remotely.  Go to TEAMS.MICROSOFT.COM and login using your Kerberos password and then click on the TEAMS TAB and choose the Questrom Faculty Team.

Additional training times for Zoom Basics and Case Teaching Remotely are posted on the Questrom COVID-19 site

(3)   We strongly recommend that faculty teach their Zoom classes from their Questrom offices or their regularly assigned classrooms for the first week or two. Delivering remote courses from your office or classroom allows us to provide you with tech support for hardware and software problems, and to react quickly should network bandwidth issues emerge. Your technology configuration is optimized for teaching in the office and the classroom. Those not teaching from Questrom are fully responsible for the delivery of their class and functioning equipment.

During the next 24 hours we will add FAQs to our COVID-19 website . Please book mark as this site will be regularly updated to provide the most current information.
