The App Idea Awards
A competition for anyone with a great idea for an app. It can be anything form something scribbled on a napkin to an actual working app with less than 1,000monthly active users. The six teams/individuals with the six strongest concepts will then pitch their idea and business plan to a group of judges, which consists of VCs and various angel investors from some of the top firms in the country: First Round Capital, Samsung Ventures, Founder Collective, Greyhound Partners.
Entrepreneurs can submit their big ides for a chance to win $70,000 worth of design and development to build their app, without sacrificing any equity or intellectual property rights.
We’re also partnering with General Assembly and Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of Greater NY to bring free classes on mobile education.
The deadline to apply is 11:59 EST on April 24th and finalists will be announced shortly thereafter. The final event will be held in New York on June 7th.

Angel Invest Boston Presents:

Kathryn Roy, Strategic Thinker & Angel
“Knowledge Can Be a Problem” Episode 9

Kathryn Roy is a person from whom I learn every time we speak. Her thoughts on messaging for tech products are prized in companies that range from relatively new enterprises, such as Constant Contact, to highly established ones, such as IBM. If you want to learn more about marketing don’t miss this episode. Here is a quote from the interview: “The hardest thing about marketing and messaging is figuring out what you’re not going to say.” She illustrates her approach with several compelling stories.

Kathryn also brings her deeply-considered advice to the startups in which she invests. I loved her advice to startup founders on hiring marketing people!

Check out our earlier interviews with people such as super angel Michael Mark, Walnut founder Ralph Wagner, angel and advisor Ben Littauer, repeat founder Beth Marcus, VC & angel Fred Bamber, biotech wiz Patrick Rivelli, software pioneer Ed Belove and the inimitable Frank Ferguson. We now provide transcripts for the interviews with subject headings so that you can quickly access particular parts of the conversation.

We are arranging live, in-person events in the spring so please add your name to the list to be notified HERE.
