BUzz Lab Sponsored Events
Startup Challenge
(From left: Joshua Surette – co-director of SUC, Winning Teams: Book My spot, OmniController, Guided and far right Saloni – co-director of SUC)
The Startup Challenge was organized this semester as an investor pitch competition for students with limited exposure to entrepreneurship. Students had to start from scratch to create an idea, and attended weekly bootcamps and workshops to learn more about entrepreneurship and take the first steps to realizing the process of starting their own venture. The final competition was held on November 29th in the SED auditorium, where we had a panel of three judges, Jill Becker, Robert Ciampa, and Ian Mashiter, who selected the winners based on presentation and idea quality, as well as the ability to answer questions from the judges.
Congratulations to all the teams who competed in the Startup Challenge. First place and $500 went to Guided, 2nd place and $250 went to Book My Spot and 3rd place and $100 went to OmniController.
We hope that the teams will use the prize money to continue their ideas, or branch off and start new entrepreneurial ventures given the lessons they learned and prize money they earned. The BUzz Lab is proud to co-sponsor this event and is looking forward to supporting the teams this coming semester.
