All potential graduates are required to submit this form to the Graduate Academic & Career Development Center. Please refer to your program handbook for your deadline to apply to graduate. Once you have been confirmed as a tentative graduate you will receive an email from your advisor with further details on your graduation status, as well as important information such as updating your diploma name and diploma pick up information on the Student Link.
Students who completed their degree requirements in September 2019 or January 2020, and those who plan to complete their degree requirements in May 2020 or September 2020, are eligible to participate in the May 2020 Convocation Ceremony. Doctoral students have additional requirements that must be completed prior to graduation. The Questrom Graduate Commencement Ceremony time, date, and location is below.
Let us know if you plan to walk in the ceremony. If you do plan to walk, please help us make the experience better for you and your family by submitting a recording of your name by your program: MSMS · MSMF · MBA · MBA+MSDi · PhD · MSBA
Make sure to resolve any compliance holds that could prevent you from receiving your diploma. If you have federal loans, your diploma will be withheld until you complete your exit counseling. For further questions related to your diploma, contact the BU registrar.
Your diploma name must match legal first and last name on file with the University. To change a first or last name, you must submit a “Name Change Form” to the office of the University Registrar. Instructions and further information on diploma name restrictions are available from the central diploma office here.
The deadline to update your diploma name is mid-March. Once your diploma has been printed, you will not be able to make any changes to your diploma name without purchasing another copy.
The Convocation program will consist of speakers, awards, and the presentation of diplomas. Please note that student names are not printed in the program.
Students participating in commencement ceremonies are required to wear University-approved regalia. Regalia information and dates will be posted in early Spring.
Honor Cords & Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Cords
Honor, High Honor & BGS cords will be given out upon check in at the Questrom Convocation. A gold cord is worn by students who are graduating with High Honors (3.70 CGPA or above) and a white cord is worn by those graduating with Honors (3.55 CGPA or above). MBA+MSDi students will receive one honor cord upon check in.
All students initiated into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society will receive a blue cord.
A professional photographer will photograph each student as he or she receives a diploma cover. Commencement Photos, Inc. will mail proofs to your home address and offer other photo packages for purchase in the weeks after the ceremony. There will be a stage with the BU seal set up at the reception for photo opportunities. We ask that graduates and guests meet at the reception for photos, as the Track & Tennis Center will lock once guests have exited in order to prepare for the next ceremony.
The Questrom Graduate Convocation Ceremony will be video-recorded. An MP4 video file will be available to order on the BU Commencement Site in late May, and shipments will begin in mid-July. Once you arrive on the bu.edu/commencement/for-students page, click “memorabilia,” then “Diploma Convocations,” and then “Order BU Productions Diploma Convocation Recording(s).”
