Award Description

The myQuestrom DEI Award recognizes students, faculty, and staff who stand out as champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Questrom through their research, teaching, leadership, and community contributions. Examples of these change agents are those who demonstrate the ability to take ownership of the most pressing DEI challenges, create impactful solutions, model inclusive leadership practices in the community, are a respected voice on matters of DEI, and challenge others to embrace opportunities to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable Questrom and business community.

Nomination Process

All Questrom students, staff, and faculty members are eligible for a myQuestrom DEI award. Any student, staff, or faculty member can submit a nomination. Self-nominations will also be accepted. Individuals may nominate multiple people.

Nominations must be submitted online using the form below and must be received no later than 11:59:59 pm ET on Sunday, April 9, 2023.

Though not limited by these examples, a successful nomination provides evidence that demonstrates aspects of the following:

  • Nominee’s embodiment of the spirit of the award;
  • Nominee’s contributions to advancing DEI at Questrom;
  • Nominee’s leadership approach in advancing DEI at Questrom; and
  • Nominee’s transformative impact in creating a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community and altering the trajectory of DEI at Questrom

In addition, a successful nomination provides the following:

  • Specific examples of the nominee’s research, teaching, leadership, and community contributions
  • Robust answers to the nomination questions, which we quantify as 75 -100 words

Should those submitting a nomination feel better able to communicate their nominee’s qualifications using a spoken medium, we invite you to upload a video or audio recording as supporting documentation.

In proposing nominations for students who stand out as champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Questrom, the following examples, though limited in scope, may be useful:

  • The nominee models inclusive practices in the Questrom community.
  • The nominee elevates their team by creating inclusive spaces that bring out the value within difference and inspire peers to lead in a manner authentically their own.
  • The nominee serves as a leading voice on matters of DEI in the classroom.
  • The nominee supports others in expanding their DEI toolkit.
  • The nominee embodies the qualities of an inclusive business leader – appreciating difference, accentuating team members’ strengths, considering the implications for those not in the room, and working toward solutions that serve everyone – with results that inspire excellence in their peers.

In proposing nominations of faculty members who stand out as champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Questrom in their teaching and/or scholarship, the following examples, though limited in scope,  may be useful:

  • The nominee engages research and scholarship to contribute to a better understanding of issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the advancement of informed business/organizational practices in this space.
  • The nominee sees DEI as an integral part of being a dynamic business leader and challenges students to wrestle with the most urgent questions around DEI in business.
  • The nominee makes students feel seen in class, develop a sense of belonging in the community, and prepare students to lead in tomorrow’s workforce.
  • The nominee models how to seek out diverse viewpoints, engage in constructive dialogue and build community recognizing we are all connected by difference.
  • The nominee elevates their team by creating inclusive spaces that bring out the value within difference and inspire peers to lead in a manner authentically their own.

In proposing nominations for staff members who stand out as champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Questrom and beyond, the following examples, though limited in scope, may be useful:

  • The nominee sees DEI as an essential part of their role and work.
  • The nominee creates innovative ways to address challenges faced by those with marginalized identities.
  • The nominee’s pursuit of DEI is evident not only in the results they achieve but also in their leadership approach in engaging with others.
  • The nominee elevates their team by creating inclusive spaces that bring out the value within difference and inspire peers to lead in a manner authentically their own.

Selection Process

Each submission will be evaluated by an award committee comprised of students, staff, and faculty members and chaired by the Director of the Questrom Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in a blind review process. At most, one undergraduate student, one graduate student, one staff member, and one faculty member will receive the honor. Honorees will be notified of their selection by Monday, May 5, 2023.
