Planning Your Courses
In order to register for the Fall semester, you must be in compliance with all University policies, including meeting all immunization requirements, settling your student account, acknowledging the Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Law, and having a current BU Alert number on record. To check your compliance status, click the purple “Personal” tab, and then select “Compliance Status.”
Failing to update a BU Alert number every semester is the most common issue that keeps you out of compliance.
The Fall 2016 schedule is available via The Student Link. Also, here is a Fall 2016 Tentative Schedule for your use. Every effort is made to keep these schedules accurate in the event of changes due to a switch in staffing, room, or cancellation due to low enrollment. If you sign up for a class that is ultimately cancelled, you will be notified via your BU email account.
To help you plan for Fall, we now have a tentative list of Spring 2017 electives.
Prior to the first day of registration, you may plan your schedule and save it to your account. This enables you to not only plan your courses using the most accurate schedule, but it also allows you the convenience of easily transferring your “planned” courses over to course registration on the day of Registration. Please note, adding a class to your Planner does not hold a place for you in a given class; the tool is for planning purposes only. You are still responsible for signing up for your courses in a timely manner. Using the Planner will save you time and may make the difference of you getting into a course before it is full. To access the Planner, click the orange “Academics” tab, click “Registration”, and then select “Reg Options” under Fall 2016. For information about how to register and add courses to your schedule directly from the Planner, click on our step-by-step registration instructions.
Standard full-time tuition covers 12-18 credits per semester. All full-time students can automatically take up to 18 credits per semester. Overloading is registering for more than 18 credits in a semester. Every additional credit beyond 18 credits will incur per-credit charges. Go here to see program-specific overload policies and the waiver to request permission to overload.
Prerequisites for all courses are listed on the schedule, and it is important that you read them. Faculty members expect students to have all relevant prerequisites. Students without a prerequisite may be asked to drop the course.
