Overview
The MS in Mathematical Finance & Financial Technology (MSMFT) program at Boston University is a rigorous and comprehensive survey of theoretical and applied mathematical finance, financial data analysis and financial technology. The program is delivered over three or four teaching semesters (Fall 1, Spring 1, Fall 2). An optional fourth semester (Spring 2) allows candidates to complete the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Financial Technology.
The summer semester affords students the opportunity to apply the tools they have mastered to real-world problems. To this end, students are required to secure summer internship positions or to complete a project assigned by a company in the financial services (or closely related) sector. There is no expectation of remuneration for project work.
Companies interested in serving as project sponsors should submit proposals describing projects to the Assistant Dean of the MSMFT program at mwyrodek@bu.edu, by April 29, 2021. The proposal should include a description of the work to be completed and any resources (e.g. data, analytical tools, etc.) that will be made available to students. A description of the skills required to complete the project should be included in the proposal.
Project sponsors may permit more than one student to work on a particular project. Sponsors may select students for projects or request that the Executive Director of the MSMFT program assign students. Sponsors are free to interview students as part of the selection process.
Project sponsors should identify one or more employees who will serve as points of contact for students. These employees will be expected to provide a modest amount of guidance to students over the course of the project.
Students are free to commence work on projects on May 10, 2021, or thereafter. Final project reports must be submitted to project sponsors and the Executive Director by August 30, 2021.
We ask sponsors to submit a brief written assessment of project reports to the Executive Director, by September 10, 2021.
