A course can carry more than one Hub requirement, and most students will fulfill Hub requirements in 10-12 courses. Hub courses can also count toward major and minor requirements, and students can elect to fulfill one requirement with a preapproved co-curricular learning experience.\u00a0 The Questrom major&#8217;s curriculum covers 16 to 20 of the 26 required Hub requirements (the required EC101, EC102, and MA121 courses at BU carry Hubs that are not covered by equivalent AP or IB advanced placement exams).\u00a0 Students complete the remaining units with elective courses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/files\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1108 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/files\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"843\" height=\"607\" srcset=\"https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7.jpg 843w, https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7-768x553.jpg 768w, https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/orientation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2018\/04\/hub_infographic_print_R7-705x508.jpg 705w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 843px) 100vw, 843px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will learn much more about these Hub requirements at Orientation, but the below nine areas are not covered by the Questrom major&#8217;s curriculum, so they are often good places to start.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Philosophical Inquiry<\/li>\n<li>Aesthetic Exploration<\/li>\n<li>Historical Consciousness<\/li>\n<li>Scientific Inquiry I<\/li>\n<li>Scientific or Social Inquiry II (covered by MA121 at BU)<\/li>\n<li>Individual in Community<\/li>\n<li>Global Citizenship\/Intercultural Literary (covered by EC102 at BU)<\/li>\n<li>Writing Intensive Course (WR120 or equivalent is a prerequisite)<\/li>\n<li>Two Critical Thinking (covered by MA121 and EC101 at BU)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have, or expect to earn, credit for Calculus, Microeconomics, and\/or Macroeconomics through AP, IB, or A-level exams, you may get to choose an elective this fall.\u00a0 Check out this<a href=\"https:\/\/scribehow.com\/shared\/Search_BU_Class_Schedule_for_HUB_Requirements__fjGRu3NtQPih6uio02SzyA\">\u00a0walk-through<\/a> of how to use the MyBU Student Class Search to find an elective with Hub requirements.\u00a0 If you have more questions about the Hub, please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hub\/advising-and-the-hub\/faqs-2\/\">Hub FAQ page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div  class='hr av-2149o3-73e561f7dac232d0829c69a287e94b55 hr-default  avia-builder-el-3  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner '><span class=\"hr-inner-style\"><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-1de8f4-c828e67ba8cab9cff2f6f90998f0e61d '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2><\/h2>\n<h2>So what does that mean for you?<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-1de8f4-1-cc68939b99ad3d265fa8852fffc55972 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Not all students will register for an elective course in their first semester.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><em>But, if you are expecting external credit for Economics or Calculus,<\/em><\/strong> you should replace the course with an elective (one for each course filled by external credit).\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have your exam scores yet, please be optimistic but realistic.\u00a0 The First Year Survey in the next step will help you decide if you should register for an elective and if so, how many.<\/p>\n<p>You can search for an elective in the Class Search on the MyBU Student portal by using the various filters, including the Keyword filter, or the Course Attribute &#8220;Hub Requirements&#8221; The above languages have online placement exams, but other languages have placement exams by scheduling. In addition to the languages listed above, Boston University also offers: Akan Twi, Amharic, Greek (both ancient &amp; modern), Hindi-Urdu, Hausa, Igbo, Kiswahili (Swahili), Mandinka, Persian (Farsi), Turkish, Wolof, isiXhosa, and isiZulu. considering is through the\u00a0College of Arts and Sciences or the School of Hospitality, taking an introductory course in the subject you\u2019re considering would be wise!\u00a0 You cannot take introductory courses in most of the other specialty schools until your second semester.\u00a0 You can find more information about required minor courses <a href=\"https:\/\/questromworld.bu.edu\/udc\/academics\/minor\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If the minor\/dual degree you\u2019re considering is through the\u00a0College of Communication, you should take WR120 in your first semester instead as COM requires additional writing courses.\u00a0 Be sure to mention this to your advisor if this is a path that you are considering.<\/p>\n<p>If you are considering a minor in Sustainable Energy, many of the introductory elective courses for Sustainable Energy are only offered in the Fall or only offered in the Spring.\u00a0 You should prioritize ENG EK225 as an elective for your first semester and CAS EE150 as an elective in your spring semester.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section
