Financing Your Questrom Education

Pursuing your Online MBA is a significant investment in your future—and there are a variety of resources available to help you make it more manageable. Whether you’re exploring US federal financial aid, employer support, or private financing options, below you’ll find an overview of the most common ways students fund their graduate education. We encourage you to explore each option to find the best fit for your personal and financial goals.

Financing Your Degree

The Online MBA costs $4,167 per module or $25,000 total tuition.

With OMBA you pay as you go, so you will be billed at the start of each semester/module. You are only billed for direct expenses (tuition and fees) charged by the university. However, we encourage you to think about your budget for things like books, course materials, and incidentals and plan accordingly.

We recommend budgeting between $350-$450 a semester for books and course materials. Please note, summer budget items are subject to change, but tuition will remain at $4,167 per module.

Tuition, fees, and other expenses have been established at Boston University Questrom School of Business for those starting in Fall 2025. The Online MBA tuition is subject to change.

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan:

Available to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. This federal program offers a lower-interest loan to students for educational expenses. Please visit the Federal Direct Loans page for more information.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan:

Available to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents who qualify as creditworthy. The Graduate Federal Direct PLUS is a federal credit-based loan, which is available to assist students with the costs of higher education. The student borrower must pass the PLUS loan credit check review and cannot have an adverse credit history. This is a 2nd loan option in addition to the Direct Unsubsidized Loan. Please visit the Federal Direct Loans page for more information.

Tuition Reimbursement:

Tuition reimbursement is a benefit where employees usually pay for their education first, and then the employer reimburses them for some or all of the cost after they’ve completed their course or program. Students whose companies have tuition reimbursement benefits will need to work with their employer’s Human Resources Department. For more information, please visit our Alternate Payment Options Page page.

Outside Agency Sponsorship:

Outside Agency Sponsorship is where the student requests to bill all or part of their tuition to a sponsor, government, or company.

If the sponsorship billing is accepted, it will be applied to the student account as an anticipated payment, and the sponsor will be invoiced after the semester course adjustment date has passed. For more information, please visit the BU Outside Agency Sponsorship page.

Payment Plans:

Boston University has partnered with Nelnet Campus Commerce to offer payment plan options for part-time students.  Fall and Spring plans are available to students who are part-time during those semesters.  Summer plans are available to all students.  Enrollment is available through MyBU Student by clicking on the “Nelnet Payment and Refunds” button from the “Student Account Balance” page under the Financials icon. Once redirected to Nelnet, select “Payment Plans” from the left-hand menu.

Payment plans are available to students for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.  There are two plan options each semester.  Each option requires a down payment of 25% of the enrolled plan amount, in addition to an enrollment fee.  The remaining 75% of the plan amount may be paid in one of two way.  Students enrolling in Option 1 will make three equal installment payments of 25% of the plan amount, due monthly throughout the semester.  Those enrolling in Option 2 will make their remaining payment shortly after the semester ends.

Please visit BU Student Accounting Services for deadlines and the most up to date information on payment plans.

Student Accounting Services is responsible for billing students and processing payments. Learn more here.

Private Scholarships are monetary awards given to applicants that do not have to be repaid and are sponsored by a benefactor or organization. These funding sources are not affiliated with Boston University and require students to research and apply on their own. Please visit our Scholarships page for additional resources.

Available to U.S. citizens, U.S. Permanent Residents, and international students with a U.S. co-borrower. U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents who qualify as creditworthy do not require co-borrowers. International students, however, must apply with a creditworthy U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident with a U.S based address, unless using a lender who does not require a co-signer. Please visit the Private Educational Loans page for more information.

To help you apply for outside scholarships, we have compiled this scholarship list.  Please note that this list is not endorsed by BU and it is not comprehensive.
