If your course is not already pre-approved for transfer credit on the Registrar’s Office Transfer Equivalency website, you will need to complete the full transfer credit approval process (below) to ensure that the credits will transfer back to BU after you successfully complete the course.
Full Transfer Credit Process (for courses taken in U.S.)
Step 1: Obtain course description and syllabus from college where you want to take the course.
Step 2: Bring syllabus along with this Transfer of Credit approval form to the appropriate department at Boston University for pre-approval.
- Find out if you must pick up the form from the department or request that the department send the completed form to the Questrom UDC.
- You will be notified by email when the UDC receives the Transfer of Credit form. We will let you know whether the department approved or denied your request.
Step 3: Register for your pre-approved course at another U.S. college/university. In order to receive credit, you must earn a grade of C or better. Once you have completed the course, please have an official transcript sent from the institution directly to the following address:
Credit Evaluation Department
881 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd Floor
Boston, MA 02215
If the college uses an online e-transcript service, please send the official electronic transcript to CEtscrpt@bu.edu. Please be sure to select an option where you can manually type in the email – if this is not done, your transcript will be sent to BU Admissions and will delay your transfer of credit.
You will be notified by email when the UDC receives the signed pre-approval form and an official transcript and applies academic credit to your record for a completed transfer course.
