SETUP
Add a Questrom Printer
Connect each computer you plan to print from. If you are off campus, connect to the BU VPN before accessing the Questrom print server.
Windows
Connect to the Questrom print server and install the printer or copier you need.
Connect to the print server
- Make sure you are connected to the BU network or BU VPN.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
\\qstprint.ad.bu.edu. - Press Enter.
Authenticate
- If prompted, enter your BU username in
AD\usernameformat. - Enter your Kerberos password.
Find your printer
- Locate the queue name from the Questrom Printer Directory above.
- Double-click the printer or copier you want to install.
Install the printer
- Allow Windows to download and install the available printer driver.
- If prompted to trust the source or install the driver, approve the installation.
macOS
Add the Questrom printer using a Windows/SMB network printer connection.
Open printer settings
- Open your Mac’s printer settings.
- Choose the option to add a printer.
- Open the Advanced printer options.
Choose the connection type
- From Type, select Windows. This is correct even though you are using a Mac; the setting refers to the network printer connection type.
Enter the printer address
- Use
smb://qstprint.ad.bu.edu/printername. - Replace
printernamewith the queue name from the Printer Directory. - Example:
smb://qstprint.ad.bu.edu/QSTPRT342
Complete setup
- Give the printer a recognizable name.
- Select the appropriate available PostScript printer driver.
- Enable duplex printing when applicable.

Do I need VPN to print?
On campus, no. If you are connecting to the Questrom print server from an off-campus network, connect to the BU VPN first.
Which print server should I use?
Faculty and staff use qstprint.ad.bu.edu. Student and PhD quota printing uses a different print server.
How do I know which printer queue to install?
Use the Questrom Printer Directory above to find the queue associated with the printer or copier in your location.
Can I install more than one Questrom printer?
Yes. Repeat the setup process for each printer or copier you need.
Having Trouble Connecting to a Printer?
Contact the Questrom Helpdesk if you cannot connect to the print server, authenticate, install a printer driver, or locate the correct printer queue.
