HOW IT WORKS
Print in Four Steps
Once the Questrom print queue is installed, you can send a document from your computer and release it at a student printer.
Step 01
Connect to the BU Network
Connect to BU WiFi while on campus. If you are off campus, connect to the BU VPN first.
Step 02
Choose the Questrom Printer
Select QST-QUOTA-PRINTERS when printing from your computer.
Step 03
Go to a Questrom Printer
Visit a Questrom student printer in Room 328 or Room 427.
Step 04
Release Your Job
Scan the QR code posted at the printer and follow the instructions to release your document.
SETUP
Add Questrom Student Printing
Set up the Questrom student print queue once on your computer. Choose your operating system below.
Windows
Connect to the Questrom server and install the print queue.
Connect to the print server
- Make sure you are connected to the BU network or BU VPN.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
\\qstprintquota.ad.bu.edu. - Press Enter.
Sign in
- When prompted, enter your BU username as
AD\username. - Enter your Kerberos password.
- Check Save Password if the option is available.
- Click OK.
Install the printer
- Locate
QST-QUOTA-PRINTERSin the list of available printers. - Double-click the printer.
- The printer driver will download and install automatically.
- If prompted, trust the source and allow the printer installation.
Release your print job
- Print to
QST-QUOTA-PRINTERS, then scan the QR code at a student printer to release your job.
macOS
Add the student print queue using the Questrom print server.
Open printer settings
- Open your Mac’s printer settings.
- Choose the option to add a printer.
- Open the Advanced printer options.
Add the Questrom queue
- From Type, select Windows. This is correct even though you are using a Mac; the setting refers to the network printer connection type.
- For the printer URL/queue, enter:
smb://qstprintquota.ad.bu.edu/QST-Quota-Printers. - Enter a recognizable name for the printer.
- Select Generic PostScript Printer as the printer driver.
- Add the printer.
- Enable Duplex Printing Unit when prompted.
Release your print job
- Print to the Questrom queue, then scan the QR code at a student printer to release the job.

Questrom student printers are available in Hariri, with options depending on the type of printing you need.

Color printing is available in the Open Access Lab in Room 328 for $0.25 per page. Color printing is paid separately and does not use your Questrom or MyPrint quota. Payment can be made with cash or Convenience Points.
PRINT QUOTA
How Your Questrom Print Quota Works
Questrom printing uses its own quota, separate from the BU MyPrint quota.
Fall Allocation
Your full Questrom print quota is credited at the beginning of the fall semester. It does not replenish in spring.
Double-Sided Print
Each printed side counts as one page. A two-sided sheet therefore counts as two pages.
Questrom Minors
Students enrolled only in a Questrom minor do not receive a Questrom print quota.
Eligibility
Print quota eligibility is based on your official school affiliation recorded by the University Registrar. Students who believe their affiliation is incorrect or outdated should contact the Registrar.
PHD STUDENTS
Additional PhD Printing Options
PhD students have access to dedicated printing resources in addition to standard Questrom student printing. Use the PhD print queues below when printing through the doctoral program’s designated printers.
Windows
Connect to the Questrom server and install the print queue.
Connect to the print server
- Open Run and enter
\\qstprintquota.ad.bu.edu, then select OK.
Authenticate
- If prompted, sign in using your BU username in
AD\usernameformat and your Kerberos password.
Install a printer
- Double-click the printer you want to install. Windows will download the available driver; approve the installation if prompted.
Available queues
- Install
QSTPRTPHD531orQSTPRTPHD624, depending on where you want to print.
macOS
Add the student print queue using the Questrom print server.
Open printer settings
- Open your Mac’s printer settings and choose the option to add a printer.
Add an Advanced printer
- Use the Advanced printer setup and choose the Windows/SMB printer type.
Enter the printer address
- Use the format
smb://qstprintquota.ad.bu.edu/printername, replacingprinternamewith the Questrom printer queue you want to install.
Example: smb://qstprintquota.ad.bu.edu/QSTPRTPHD531.
Complete setup
- Give the printer a recognizable name, select the appropriate available PostScript driver, and enable duplex printing when prompted.

Questrom Printing vs. BU MyPrint
Questrom student printing and BU MyPrint are separate services. Use the one that best matches where and how you need to print.
Questrom Printing
Questrom printing uses school-specific print queues and a separate Questrom print quota. Student printing is available through designated Questrom printers in the Hariri Building.
BU MyPrint
MyPrint is BU’s University-wide printing service, with its own print allocation and supported printer locations across campus.

Why don't I see QST-QUOTA-PRINTERS?
Make sure you have installed the Questrom student print queue and are connected to the BU network. If you are off campus, connect to the BU VPN first.
I sent a document, but nothing printed.
Questrom student printing uses print release. Go to a student printer and scan the QR code posted at the printer to release your job.
Can I print from off campus?
You can connect to Questrom printing resources remotely when connected to the BU VPN, but the document must still be released at a physical Questrom printer.
Can I print in color?
Color printing is available in the Open Access Lab in Hariri Room 328. Color printing uses a separate paid printing option.
What's the difference between Questrom printing and MyPrint?
Questrom printing is managed specifically for Questrom students and printers. MyPrint is BU’s university-wide student printing service and has separate locations and printing allocations.
Does my print quota reset in the spring?
No. The full Questrom quota is credited at the beginning of the fall semester and does not replenish for spring.
