Private Loan Repayment
Loan repayment terms and conditions are set by your Private Loan Servicer and vary from servicer to servicer – More information can be found on your Private Loan Servicer’s webpage.
Know the current loan type, balance, interest rate, and servicer for each student loan.
Reach out to your student loan servicer – it is their job to help you understand your loans and assist with processing your loan payments.
You can find the most detailed and up-to-date information about your loans on your servicer’s website. Be sure your contact information is correct.
All federal student loan borrowers must complete Federal Exit Counseling. The purpose of exit counseling is to ensure you understand your student loan obligations and are prepared for repayment.
Know when you must begin making payments and how much. This information can be determined through your servicer.
Create a budget to determine how much you can realistically afford to pay each month toward your student loans. Additional help can be found on the FSA Budgeting page.
If loan payments become unmanageable, determine if Consolidating or Refinancing your loans is right for you.
Choose a repayment plan that fits your goals by using the Federal Repayment Estimator. Private loan borrowers should reach out to their servicer and inquire about payment plans.
