What Do You Need?
The right process depends on whether you need new equipment, a replacement device, software, or something temporarily.
Computer or Equipment Purchase
Computers, tablets, monitors, and other technology purchased for University use should go through the appropriate Questrom technology purchasing process.
Replacement or Upgrade
If your assigned Questrom computer is aging, damaged, or no longer meeting your work requirements, contact Questrom IT to discuss replacement or upgrade options.
Temporary Equipment
Loaner options depend on who you are and how long you need the equipment. Students and employees have different temporary equipment options.
Software or License
Before purchasing software, check whether Questrom or Boston University already provides the application or an equivalent service.
FACULTY & STAFF PURCHASING
Before You Buy Technology
Faculty and staff requesting technology for University use should start with Questrom IT. Equipment purchases may need to meet requirements for compatibility, security, support, licensing, and asset management.
Start with Questrom IT
Contact Questrom IT before purchasing computers, tablets, or other significant technology. We can help determine the appropriate equipment and purchasing route.
Faculty & Staff: Confirm Before Purchasing
Faculty and staff purchasing technology for University use should confirm the appropriate purchasing and approval process with Questrom IT before placing an order. Personal student technology purchases are not covered by this process.
Check Existing Resources
Before requesting new hardware or software, check whether the technology you need is already available through Questrom computer labs, virtual computing, University licenses, or existing equipment.
Consider Supportability
Standard equipment and software are generally easier for Questrom IT to configure, secure, maintain, and support throughout their lifecycle.
FACULTY & STAFF REPLACEMENTS
Replacements & Assigned Equipment
Faculty and staff who need a new or replacement computer should start with Questrom IT so we can review the existing equipment, requirements, and available options.
Request a Computer Review
Contact Questrom IT if your assigned computer is due for replacement, no longer meets your work requirements, or has a hardware problem that may require replacement.

What happens if my BU computer is being repaired?
Faculty and staff may have access to temporary equipment while an assigned computer is being repaired. Contact Questrom IT to discuss availability.
