A Prescription for Better Healthcare: Disruptive Innovation, Transparency, and Patient Engagement

Friday, October 30, 2015 at Questrom School of Business, Boston University

The third annual Health and Life Sciences Conference, a student-organized conference at the Questrom School of Business, will convene graduate students, faculty, and industry professionals to discuss “A Prescription for Better Healthcare,” focused on the provision of high-value services to patients across the care continuum. As healthcare consumers, we have a responsibility to not only demand better, more affordable care, but also to be actively involved in the strategy that will get us there. Speakers representing hospitals and health plans, life sciences, IT, and public health perspectives, will explore three components of this “prescription:”

  1. Embracing disruptive innovation to provide increasingly affordable and conveniently accessible products and services to patients.
  2. Widespread adoption of transparency to encourage patient accountability, healthy competition among providers, and better patient care.
  3. Patient engagement to promote improved health outcomes and more effective, affordable care, less costly care.

The Health & Life Sciences Conference, affiliated with the Boston University Health Sector community and the Health Sector Management Club, will include industry-focused keynote addresses, a lightning round of Boston healthcare startups, a series of “Terrier Talks,” and breakout sessions addressing transparency and patient engagement in various healthcare sectors, followed by a networking reception.
