Request to Use ExamSoft

Please send an email to Questrom ITS at questromhelp@bu.edu to request to use ExamSoft (if you’re new to ExamSoft, we kindly ask that you give us 2-3 weeks heads-up before your first scheduled exam).

Someone from Questrom ITS will then connect with you to talk through how ExamSoft works, and schedule training sessions.

ExamSoft Training

There will be multiple training sessions such as:

  • Exam Creation: Go over Assessment Options, Building Assessment (Blueprint vs List View), Formatting and Importing Questions from Word Doc, Post Settings
  • Proctoring, Grading, Reporting/Adjusted Scoring: Go over Proctoring tab (password/resume code, exam downloads/uploads), Grading essay questions (anonymous grading), Adjusting questions/answers/point values, Viewing individual student reports, and Releasing Exam Results

Each Session will have built-in time for any additional questions you might have.

*For coordinated courses, only the course coordinator (exam creators) will need to attend the Exam Creation training. All faculty must attend Proctoring, Grading, Reporting/Adjusted Scoring training.

Basic Troubleshooting for Common Issues

  1. Check Proctoring tab of assessment in ExamSoft Portal to see if student already downloaded exam. If they did, ask if the student is using the computer that s/he used to downloaded the exam with.
  2. If they still do not have it, give the student another download (Proctoring tab) and have the student Refresh Exam List.
  1. Make sure that the student is typing the password correctly, check Exam Title to ensure student is entering the password for the correct exam.
  1. We can only wait. If spinning wheel is no longer spinning, force restart the computer by holding down the power button, wait a couple of seconds, click the power button to turn on the computer.
  1. Navigate to another question, and then navigate back to the question with the attachment. If attachment is still not showing up, restart the computer (wait 60 seconds from when student last entered data).
  1. Check that the student is connected to internet (if on campus, ensure that students are connected to BU (802.1x)*), and then click Retry Upload. If Wi-Fi is not reconnecting, restart computer. Then relaunch Examplify, click Retry Upload.

*BU (802.1x) is the only Wireless Network that provides internet connection. Some students default to BU VPN, BU Guest, etc.

Advanced Troubleshooting

  1. If all fails, restart Computer after 60 seconds from when student last entered data.
  2. Contact Questrom ITS via questromhelp@bu.edu to get a member of our team to do more advanced troubleshooting.
